Investing in radiotherapy

Edwina Hart, health minister for Wales, has announced £900,000 to further improve access to radiotherapy.

The funding, shared between the three cancer centres in Wales at Singleton Hospital, Swansea, Velindre Hospital, Cardiff and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan, will provide access to additional hours of radiotherapy treatment every week.

Ms Hart said: "Cutting waiting times is a One Wales commitment, and we are continually working towards delivering faster access to healthcare in Wales.

"Capital investment in buildings, facilities and equipment - such as the £12.6 million to improve cancer facilities in North Wales, mean that the quality of service remains at a high standard, and provision remains consistent."

"This £900,000 funding will increase radiotherapy capacity through the appointment of additional staff, maximising access to treatment, ensuring the best possible outcome for the patient.

"I want to thank NHS' staff for their hard work and dedication in reducing waiting times and hope this extra funding will build on these achievements."
